bugs are gross

i'm not sure what possessed me to purchase caterpillars this spring.  i don't like bugs.  it might have been because i was only thinking about the pretty butterflies at the end of it all...and giving the kids a chance to see nature up close.

i ordered caterpillars.  they came in this cup.  the yellow goo on the bottom is food.

the caterpillars got extremely big.  i almost let them go because i got claustrophobic just watching them!

finally they formed a chrysalis (no picture, sorry) and we put them in the blue mesh cage.

a week later...

butterflies!!

we let them go pretty quick after they "hatched" because i was ready for all the bugs to be back outside where they belong!!

when i wasn't grossed out, i pondered the magic of caterpillars becoming butterflies.  it really is an amazing miracle.  God is so creative.  it made me think how some of God's most beautiful miracles come after ugly grossness.

for that up close visual, i will always be grateful we had this experience.
